⛵ Peace, Be Still
Jesus sleeps in a storm, then speaks, and the wind and waves obey him.
Evening came, and Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” They left the crowd and set out in a boat. Jesus was tired from teaching. He fell asleep on a cushion in the stern.
A furious squall came up. Waves broke over the boat until it was nearly swamped. The disciples shook Jesus awake. “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” It was an honest, scared question.
Jesus got up and spoke to the wind and the waves. “Quiet! Be still!” The wind died down and it was completely calm. Then he asked, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified in a new way. “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
Jesus cares in the storm, even when he seems quiet. He is Lord over the things that feel out of control. You can wake him with an honest prayer. The same voice that calmed Galilee can speak peace to a pounding heart.
“He awoke, and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” The wind ceased, and there was a great calm.”
