The first Christmas sermon was preached to workers who smelled like sheep. The angel’s first words were not “decorate.” They were “don’t be afraid.” Good news came to ordinary people in the dark.
If tonight is busy, keep the news simple: Jesus is born for you, and for all the people. Joy does not have to shout. It can whisper while a child falls asleep.
Prayer
Jesus, thank you for coming into an ordinary night. Take our fear and leave us your joy. Amen.
Challenge
Look out a dark window for ten seconds and say, don’t be afraid, good news is here.
For the adult
A short Eve is a faithful Eve. You do not owe anyone a production.
