👑 Judges 2
Judges 2 opens with these words: “Yahweh’s angel came up from Gilgal to Bochim. He said, “I brought you out of Egypt, and have brought you to the land which I swore to give…” The line to keep is Judges 2:3: “Therefore I also said, ‘I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be in your sides, and their gods will be a snare to you.’”” Carry the word “drive” from that verse into the rest of the day.
Judges 2 is a real chapter from the Old Testament. It starts, “Yahweh’s angel came up from Gilgal to Bochim. He said, “I brought you out of Egypt, and have brought you to the land which I swore to give your fathers. I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you.” That is not a motto invented for a poster. It is the first sentence a family hears when this page is opened at night.
Keep going a little further. The chapter also says, “They abandoned Yahweh, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed themselves down to them; and they provoked Yahweh to anger.” Judges 2 opens with these words: “Yahweh’s angel came up from Gilgal to Bochim.
The line worth learning out loud is Judges 2:3: “Therefore I also said, ‘I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be in your sides, and their gods will be a snare to you.’”” If the rest of the chapter feels crowded, hold that one sentence until the room is quiet.
What happens first in Judges 2? Then try this: Read “Therefore I also said, ‘I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be in your sides, and…” once more. What does it show you about God? You do not have to finish every verse. You can close the book after the memory verse and still have read the Bible together.
“Therefore I also said, ‘I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be in your sides, and their gods will be a snare to you.’””
