📖 Judges 19
Judges 19 opens with these words: “In those days, when there was no king in Israel, there was a certain Levite living on the farther side of the hill country of Ephraim, who…” The line to keep is Judges 19:26: “Then the woman came in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man’s house where her lord was, until it was light.” Carry the word “woman” from that verse into the rest of the day.
Judges 19 is a real chapter from the Old Testament. It starts, “In those days, when there was no king in Israel, there was a certain Levite living on the farther side of the hill country of Ephraim, who took for himself a concubine out of Bethlehem Judah.” That is not a motto invented for a poster. It is the first sentence a family hears when this page is opened at night.
Keep going a little further. The chapter also says, “Behold, an old man came from his work out of the field at evening. Now the man was from the hill country of Ephraim, and he lived in Gibeah; but the men of the place were Benjamites.” Judges 19 opens with these words: “In those days, when there was no king in Israel, there was a certain Levite living on the farther side of the hill country of Ephraim, who…” The line to keep is Judges 19:26: “Then the woman came in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man’s house where her lord was, until it was light.” Carry the word “woman” from that verse into the rest of the day.
The line worth learning out loud is Judges 19:26: “Then the woman came in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man’s house where her lord was, until it was light.” If the rest of the chapter feels crowded, hold that one sentence until the room is quiet.
What happens first in Judges 19? Then try this: Read “Then the woman came in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man’s house where her lord…” once more. What does it show you about God? You do not have to finish every verse. You can close the book after the memory verse and still have read the Bible together.
