🎺 Joshua and the Walls of Jericho
Joshua obeys an unusual plan, and Jericho’s walls fall after trumpets and a shout.
Joshua was the new leader after Moses. Ahead of God’s people stood Jericho, a city with tall walls. God gave Joshua a strange plan. March around the city once a day for six days, with priests and the ark and trumpets. Do not shout yet.
Imagine the soldiers inside listening to footsteps and horns, day after day, and no attack. God’s people had to obey when the plan looked slow. On the seventh day they marched seven times. Then Joshua said, “Shout! The Lord has given you the city.”
They shouted, the trumpets sounded, and the walls collapsed. The battle belonged to the Lord. Rahab, a woman who had helped God’s spies and trusted him, was kept safe with her family because of a scarlet cord in her window.
Some problems look like walls. God may ask you to obey in small circles before anything loud happens: tell the truth, practice the song, be kind again. When it is time to shout — to try, to speak, to trust — he goes with you. Be strong and courageous.
“Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for Yahweh your God is with you wherever you go.””

- What small obedience is God asking from you before a “shout”?

Lord, the walls in front of me look tall. Help me obey you step by step and be strong because you are with me. Amen.
Parent tip
