Jeremiah 28 is a real chapter from the Old Testament. It starts, “That same year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, in the fifth month, Hananiah the son of Azzur, the prophet, who was of Gibeon, spoke to me in Yahweh’s house, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,” That is not a motto invented for a poster. It is the first sentence a family hears when this page is opened at night.
Keep going a little further. The chapter also says, “The prophet who prophesies of peace, when the word of the prophet happens, then the prophet will be known, that Yahweh has truly sent him.”” Jeremiah 28 opens with these words: “That same year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, in the fifth month, Hananiah the son of…” The line to keep is Jeremiah 28:2: ““Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says, ‘I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.” Carry the word “armies” from that verse into the rest of the day.
The line worth learning out loud is Jeremiah 28:2: ““Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says, ‘I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.” If the rest of the chapter feels crowded, hold that one sentence until the room is quiet.
What happens first in Jeremiah 28? Then try this: Read ““Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says, ‘I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.” once more. What does it show you about God? You do not have to finish every verse. You can close the book after the memory verse and still have read the Bible together.
““Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says, ‘I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.”
