🔥 Jeremiah 19
Jeremiah 19 opens with these words: “Thus said Yahweh, “Go, and buy a potter’s earthen bottle, and take some of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests;” The line to keep is Jeremiah 19:1: “Thus said Yahweh, “Go, and buy a potter’s earthen bottle, and take some of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests;” Carry the word “thus” from that verse into the rest of the day.
Jeremiah 19 is a real chapter from the Old Testament. It starts, “Thus said Yahweh, “Go, and buy a potter’s earthen bottle, and take some of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests;” That is not a motto invented for a poster. It is the first sentence a family hears when this page is opened at night.
Keep going a little further. The chapter also says, “I will make this city an astonishment and a hissing. Everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss because of all its plagues.” Jeremiah 19 opens with these words: “Thus said Yahweh, “Go, and buy a potter’s earthen bottle, and take some of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests;” The line to keep is Jeremiah 19:1: “Thus said Yahweh, “Go, and buy a potter’s earthen bottle, and take some of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests;” Carry the word “thus” from that verse into the rest of the day.
The line worth learning out loud is Jeremiah 19:1: “Thus said Yahweh, “Go, and buy a potter’s earthen bottle, and take some of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests;” If the rest of the chapter feels crowded, hold that one sentence until the room is quiet.
What happens first in Jeremiah 19? Then try this: Read “Thus said Yahweh, “Go, and buy a potter’s earthen bottle, and take some of the elders of the people, and of…” once more. What does it show you about God? You do not have to finish every verse. You can close the book after the memory verse and still have read the Bible together.
