🌾 Jeremiah 12
Jeremiah 12 opens with these words: “You are righteous, Yahweh, when I contend with you; yet I would like to reason the cause with you. Why does the way of the wicked prosper?…” The line to keep is Jeremiah 12:2: “You have planted them. Yes, they have taken root. They grow. Yes, they produce fruit. You are near in their mouth, and far from their heart.” Carry the word “planted” from that verse into the rest of the day.
Jeremiah 12 is a real chapter from the Old Testament. It starts, “You are righteous, Yahweh, when I contend with you; yet I would like to reason the cause with you. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are they all at ease who deal very treacherously?” That is not a motto invented for a poster. It is the first sentence a family hears when this page is opened at night.
Keep going a little further. The chapter also says, “Is my heritage to me as a speckled bird of prey? Are the birds of prey against her all around? Go, assemble all the animals of the field. Bring them to devour.” Jeremiah 12 opens with these words: “You are righteous, Yahweh, when I contend with you; yet I would like to reason the cause with you.
The line worth learning out loud is Jeremiah 12:2: “You have planted them. Yes, they have taken root. They grow. Yes, they produce fruit. You are near in their mouth, and far from their heart.” If the rest of the chapter feels crowded, hold that one sentence until the room is quiet.
What happens first in Jeremiah 12? Then try this: Read “You have planted them. Yes, they have taken root. They grow. Yes, they produce fruit. You are near in their…” once more. What does it show you about God? You do not have to finish every verse. You can close the book after the memory verse and still have read the Bible together.
“You have planted them. Yes, they have taken root. They grow. Yes, they produce fruit. You are near in their mouth, and far from their heart.”
