💧 Isaac and a Peaceful Well
Isaac digs wells, walks away from a fight, and learns that God makes room for peacemakers.
Isaac was Abraham’s son, and God blessed his fields and his flocks. In a dry land, water was treasure. Isaac’s workers dug a well, and neighbors argued, “That water is ours.” It would have been easy to shout back.
Isaac moved on and dug another well. The same argument started. He could have turned the argument into a battle. Instead he moved again. He was strong enough to fight and wise enough not to.
At the next place, no one quarreled. Isaac named the well Rehoboth, which means “room.” He said, “Now the Lord has given us room, and we will flourish.” God appeared to him and said, “Do not be afraid, for I am with you.”
Peacemaking is not the same as being a pushover. Isaac kept digging. He just refused to let a fight be the loudest thing in his life. Tonight, if someone took your turn or your seat, you can ask God for the courage to make room and still trust him to take care of you.
“If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.”
