🌿 Deuteronomy 24

Deuteronomy 24 is a real chapter from the Old Testament. It starts, “When a man takes a wife and marries her, then it shall be, if she finds no favor in his eyes, because he has found some unseemly thing in her, that he shall write her a bill of divorce, and put it in her hand, and send her out of his house.” That is not a motto invented for a poster. It is the first sentence a family hears when this page is opened at night.

Keep going a little further. The chapter also says, “If he is a poor man, you shall not sleep with his pledge.” Deuteronomy 24 opens with these words: “When a man takes a wife and marries her, then it shall be, if she finds no favor in his eyes, because he has found some unseemly thing in…” The line to keep is Deuteronomy 24:9: “Remember what Yahweh your God did to Miriam, by the way as you came out of Egypt.” Carry the word “remember” from that verse into the rest of the day.

The line worth learning out loud is Deuteronomy 24:9: “Remember what Yahweh your God did to Miriam, by the way as you came out of Egypt.” If the rest of the chapter feels crowded, hold that one sentence until the room is quiet.

What happens first in Deuteronomy 24? Then try this: Read “Remember what Yahweh your God did to Miriam, by the way as you came out of Egypt.” once more. What does it show you about God? You do not have to finish every verse. You can close the book after the memory verse and still have read the Bible together.
