👀 Bartimaeus Won’t Stay Quiet
A blind man shouts for mercy, and Jesus stops to heal him.
Jesus was leaving Jericho with a large crowd. A blind man named Bartimaeus sat by the roadside begging. When he heard that Jesus of Nazareth was near, he shouted, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Many people told him to be quiet. He shouted louder.
Jesus stopped. “Call him.” They said, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” Bartimaeus threw his cloak aside, jumped up, and came. Jesus asked, “What do you want me to do for you?” “Rabbi, I want to see.”
“Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately Bartimaeus received his sight and followed Jesus along the road. The man who had been told to hush became a follower with open eyes.
If you need help, you are allowed to ask more than once. Other people’s embarrassment does not get to silence a prayer. Jesus still stops. Tell him what you want, and be ready to follow.
“Jesus said to him, “Go your way. Your faith has made you well.” Immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus on the way.”
