🪔 Amos 9
Amos 9 opens with these words: “I saw the Lord standing beside the altar, and he said, “Strike the tops of the pillars, that the thresholds may shake; and break them in…” The line to keep is Amos 9:15: “I will plant them on their land, and they will no more be plucked up out of their land which I have given them,” says Yahweh your God.” Carry the word “plant” from that verse into the rest of the day.
Amos 9 is a real chapter from the Old Testament. It starts, “I saw the Lord standing beside the altar, and he said, “Strike the tops of the pillars, that the thresholds may shake; and break them in pieces on the head of all of them; and I will kill the last of them with the sword: there shall not one of them flee away, and there shall not one of them escape.” That is not a motto invented for a poster. It is the first sentence a family hears when this page is opened at night.
Keep going a little further. The chapter also says, “Behold, the eyes of the Lord Yahweh are on the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the surface of the earth; except that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob,” says Yahweh.” Amos 9 opens with these words: “I saw the Lord standing beside the altar, and he said, “Strike the tops of the pillars, that the thresholds may shake; and break them in…” The line to keep is Amos 9:15: “I will plant them on their land, and they will no more be plucked up out of their land which I have given them,” says Yahweh your God.” Carry the word “plant” from that verse into the rest of the day.
The line worth learning out loud is Amos 9:15: “I will plant them on their land, and they will no more be plucked up out of their land which I have given them,” says Yahweh your God.” If the rest of the chapter feels crowded, hold that one sentence until the room is quiet.
What happens first in Amos 9? Then try this: Read “I will plant them on their land, and they will no more be plucked up out of their land which I have given…” once more. What does it show you about God? You do not have to finish every verse. You can close the book after the memory verse and still have read the Bible together.
“I will plant them on their land, and they will no more be plucked up out of their land which I have given them,” says Yahweh your God.”
