🌙 2 Samuel 8
2 Samuel 8 opens with these words: “After this, David struck the Philistines and subdued them; and David took the bridle of the mother city out of the hand of the Philistines.” The line to keep is 2 Samuel 8:12: “of Syria, of Moab, of the children of Ammon, of the Philistines, of Amalek, and of the plunder of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.” Carry the word “syria” from that verse into the rest of the day.
2 Samuel 8 is a real chapter from the Old Testament. It starts, “After this, David struck the Philistines and subdued them; and David took the bridle of the mother city out of the hand of the Philistines.” That is not a motto invented for a poster. It is the first sentence a family hears when this page is opened at night.
Keep going a little further. The chapter also says, “then Toi sent Joram his son to king David, to greet him, and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and struck him; for Hadadezer had wars with Toi. Joram brought with him vessels of silver, vessels of gold, and vessels of brass:” 2 Samuel 8 opens with these words: “After this, David struck the Philistines and subdued them; and David took the bridle of the mother city out of the hand of the Philistines.” The line to keep is 2 Samuel 8:12: “of Syria, of Moab, of the children of Ammon, of the Philistines, of Amalek, and of the plunder of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.” Carry the word “syria” from that verse into the rest of the day.
The line worth learning out loud is 2 Samuel 8:12: “of Syria, of Moab, of the children of Ammon, of the Philistines, of Amalek, and of the plunder of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.” If the rest of the chapter feels crowded, hold that one sentence until the room is quiet.
What happens first in 2 Samuel 8? Then try this: Read “of Syria, of Moab, of the children of Ammon, of the Philistines, of Amalek, and of the plunder of Hadadezer,…” once more. What does it show you about God? You do not have to finish every verse. You can close the book after the memory verse and still have read the Bible together.
“of Syria, of Moab, of the children of Ammon, of the Philistines, of Amalek, and of the plunder of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.”
