Five-minute object lesson
Prop: a wooden spoon
Hold a wooden spoon. Read Micah 4 in about four minutes, stopping at Micah 4:5: “Indeed all the nations may walk in the name of their gods; but we will walk in the name of Yahweh our God forever and ever.” Ask, “What does this prop have to do with Micah 4?” Let two children answer, then say the memory verse together.
Story script
Micah 4 is a real chapter from the Old Testament. It starts, “But in the latter days, it will happen that the mountain of Yahweh’s temple will be established on the top of the mountains, and it will be exalted above the hills; and peoples will stream to it.” That is not a motto invented for a poster. It is the first sentence a family hears when this page is opened at night.
Keep going a little further. The chapter also says, “and I will make that which was lame a remnant, and that which was cast far off a strong nation: and Yahweh will reign over them on Mount Zion from then on, even forever.”” Micah 4 opens with these words: “But in the latter days, it will happen that the mountain of Yahweh’s temple will be established on the top of the mountains, and it will…” The line to keep is Micah 4:5: “Indeed all the nations may walk in the name of their gods; but we will walk in the name of Yahweh our God forever and ever.” Carry the word “indeed” from that verse into the rest of the day.
The line worth learning out loud is Micah 4:5: “Indeed all the nations may walk in the name of their gods; but we will walk in the name of Yahweh our God forever and ever.” If the rest of the chapter feels crowded, hold that one sentence until the room is quiet.
What happens first in Micah 4? Then try this: Read “Indeed all the nations may walk in the name of their gods; but we will walk in the name of Yahweh our God…” once more. What does it show you about God? You do not have to finish every verse. You can close the book after the memory verse and still have read the Bible together.
Group game
Walk the room as if you are moving through Micah 4. Every time you freeze, a child says one word from Micah 4:5. The last child says the whole verse.
Craft
On a US Letter sheet, draw one picture from Micah 4 and write Micah 4:5 under it. Send it home as tonight’s reminder, not as a decoration contest.
