Five-minute object lesson
Prop: a key
Hold a key. Read Daniel 4 in about four minutes, stopping at Daniel 4:1: “Nebuchadnezzar the king, to all the peoples, nations, and languages, who dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you.” Ask, “What does this prop have to do with Daniel 4?” Let two children answer, then say the memory verse together.
Story script
Daniel 4 is a real chapter from the Old Testament. It starts, “Nebuchadnezzar the king, to all the peoples, nations, and languages, who dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you.” That is not a motto invented for a poster. It is the first sentence a family hears when this page is opened at night.
Keep going a little further. The chapter also says, “Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was stricken mute for a while, and his thoughts troubled him. The king answered, “Belteshazzar, don’t let the dream, or the interpretation, trouble you.” Belteshazzar answered, “My lord, may the dream be for those who hate you, and its interpretation to your adversaries.” Daniel 4 opens with these words: “Nebuchadnezzar the king, to all the peoples, nations, and languages, who dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you.” The line to keep is Daniel 4:1: “Nebuchadnezzar the king, to all the peoples, nations, and languages, who dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you.” Carry the word “nebuchadne” from that verse into the rest of the day.
The line worth learning out loud is Daniel 4:1: “Nebuchadnezzar the king, to all the peoples, nations, and languages, who dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you.” If the rest of the chapter feels crowded, hold that one sentence until the room is quiet.
What happens first in Daniel 4? Then try this: Read “Nebuchadnezzar the king, to all the peoples, nations, and languages, who dwell in all the earth: Peace be…” once more. What does it show you about God? You do not have to finish every verse. You can close the book after the memory verse and still have read the Bible together.
Group game
Walk the room as if you are moving through Daniel 4. Every time you freeze, a child says one word from Daniel 4:1. The last child says the whole verse.
Craft
On a US Letter sheet, draw one picture from Daniel 4 and write Daniel 4:1 under it. Send it home as tonight’s reminder, not as a decoration contest.
