Five-minute object lesson
Prop: a paper crown
Hold a paper crown. Read Ezekiel 44 in about four minutes, stopping at Ezekiel 44:9: “Thus says the Lord Yahweh, “No foreigner, uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh, shall enter into my sanctuary, of any foreigners who are among the children of Israel.” Ask, “What does this prop have to do with Ezekiel 44?” Let two children answer, then say the memory verse together.
Story script
Ezekiel 44 is a real chapter from the Old Testament. It starts, “Then he brought me back by the way of the outer gate of the sanctuary, which looks toward the east; and it was shut.” That is not a motto invented for a poster. It is the first sentence a family hears when this page is opened at night.
Keep going a little further. The chapter also says, ““They shall enter into my sanctuary, and they shall come near to my table, to minister to me, and they shall keep my instruction.” Ezekiel 44 opens with these words: “Then he brought me back by the way of the outer gate of the sanctuary, which looks toward the east; and it was shut.” The line to keep is Ezekiel 44:9: “Thus says the Lord Yahweh, “No foreigner, uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh, shall enter into my sanctuary, of any foreigners who are among…” Carry the word “thus” from that verse into the rest of the day.
The line worth learning out loud is Ezekiel 44:9: “Thus says the Lord Yahweh, “No foreigner, uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh, shall enter into my sanctuary, of any foreigners who are among the children of Israel.” If the rest of the chapter feels crowded, hold that one sentence until the room is quiet.
What happens first in Ezekiel 44? Then try this: Read “Thus says the Lord Yahweh, “No foreigner, uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh, shall enter…” once more. What does it show you about God? You do not have to finish every verse. You can close the book after the memory verse and still have read the Bible together.
Group game
Walk the room as if you are moving through Ezekiel 44. Every time you freeze, a child says one word from Ezekiel 44:9. The last child says the whole verse.
Craft
On a US Letter sheet, draw one picture from Ezekiel 44 and write Ezekiel 44:9 under it. Send it home as tonight’s reminder, not as a decoration contest.
