Prop: a paper crown

Hold a paper crown. Read Ezekiel 34 in about four minutes, stopping at Ezekiel 34:15: “I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I will cause them to lie down,” says the Lord Yahweh.” Ask, “What does this prop have to do with Ezekiel 34?” Let two children answer, then say the memory verse together.

Story script

Ezekiel 34 is a real chapter from the Old Testament. It starts, “Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,” That is not a motto invented for a poster. It is the first sentence a family hears when this page is opened at night.

Keep going a little further. The chapter also says, ““I will seek that which was lost, and will bring back that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick; but I will destroy the fat and the strong. I will feed them in justice.”’” Ezekiel 34 opens with these words: “Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,” The line to keep is Ezekiel 34:15: “I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I will cause them to lie down,” says the Lord Yahweh.” Carry the word “myself” from that verse into the rest of the day.

The line worth learning out loud is Ezekiel 34:15: “I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I will cause them to lie down,” says the Lord Yahweh.” If the rest of the chapter feels crowded, hold that one sentence until the room is quiet.

What happens first in Ezekiel 34? Then try this: Read “I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I will cause them to lie down,” says the Lord Yahweh.” once more. What does it show you about God? You do not have to finish every verse. You can close the book after the memory verse and still have read the Bible together.
