Prop: a ribbon

Hold a ribbon. Read Ezekiel 12 in about four minutes, stopping at Ezekiel 12:10: ““Say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “This burden concerns the prince in Jerusalem, and all the house of Israel among whom they are.”’” Ask, “What does this prop have to do with Ezekiel 12?” Let two children answer, then say the memory verse together.

Story script

Ezekiel 12 is a real chapter from the Old Testament. It starts, “Yahweh’s word also came to me, saying,” That is not a motto invented for a poster. It is the first sentence a family hears when this page is opened at night.

Keep going a little further. The chapter also says, ““‘They will know that I am Yahweh when I disperse them among the nations, and scatter them through the countries.” Ezekiel 12 opens with these words: “Yahweh’s word also came to me, saying,” The line to keep is Ezekiel 12:10: ““Say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “This burden concerns the prince in Jerusalem, and all the house of Israel among whom they are.”’” Carry the word “thus” from that verse into the rest of the day.

The line worth learning out loud is Ezekiel 12:10: ““Say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “This burden concerns the prince in Jerusalem, and all the house of Israel among whom they are.”’” If the rest of the chapter feels crowded, hold that one sentence until the room is quiet.

What happens first in Ezekiel 12? Then try this: Read ““Say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “This burden concerns the prince in Jerusalem, and all the house…” once more. What does it show you about God? You do not have to finish every verse. You can close the book after the memory verse and still have read the Bible together.

Group game

Walk the room as if you are moving through Ezekiel 12. Every time you freeze, a child says one word from Ezekiel 12:10. The last child says the whole verse.

Craft

On a US Letter sheet, draw one picture from Ezekiel 12 and write Ezekiel 12:10 under it. Send it home as tonight’s reminder, not as a decoration contest.
