Five-minute object lesson
Prop: a seed
Hold a seed. Read Ezekiel 10 in about four minutes, stopping at Ezekiel 10:5: “The sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard even to the outer court, as the voice of God Almighty when he speaks.” Ask, “What does this prop have to do with Ezekiel 10?” Let two children answer, then say the memory verse together.
Story script
Ezekiel 10 is a real chapter from the Old Testament. It starts, “Then I looked, and see, in the expanse that was over the head of the cherubim there appeared above them as it were a sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne.” That is not a motto invented for a poster. It is the first sentence a family hears when this page is opened at night.
Keep going a little further. The chapter also says, “Their whole body, including their backs, their hands, their wings, and the wheels, were full of eyes all around, even the wheels that the four of them had.” Ezekiel 10 opens with these words: “Then I looked, and see, in the expanse that was over the head of the cherubim there appeared above them as it were a sapphire stone, as…” The line to keep is Ezekiel 10:5: “The sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard even to the outer court, as the voice of God Almighty when he speaks.” Carry the word “sound” from that verse into the rest of the day.
The line worth learning out loud is Ezekiel 10:5: “The sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard even to the outer court, as the voice of God Almighty when he speaks.” If the rest of the chapter feels crowded, hold that one sentence until the room is quiet.
What happens first in Ezekiel 10? Then try this: Read “The sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard even to the outer court, as the voice of God Almighty when…” once more. What does it show you about God? You do not have to finish every verse. You can close the book after the memory verse and still have read the Bible together.
Group game
Walk the room as if you are moving through Ezekiel 10. Every time you freeze, a child says one word from Ezekiel 10:5. The last child says the whole verse.
Craft
On a US Letter sheet, draw one picture from Ezekiel 10 and write Ezekiel 10:5 under it. Send it home as tonight’s reminder, not as a decoration contest.
