Prop: a piece of bread

Hold a piece of bread. Read Ezekiel 7 in about four minutes, stopping at Ezekiel 7:2: ““You, son of man, thus says the Lord Yahweh to the land of Israel, ‘An end! The end has come on the four corners of the land.” Ask, “What does this prop have to do with Ezekiel 7?” Let two children answer, then say the memory verse together.

Story script

Ezekiel 7 is a real chapter from the Old Testament. It starts, “Moreover Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,” That is not a motto invented for a poster. It is the first sentence a family hears when this page is opened at night.

Keep going a little further. The chapter also says, “They have blown the trumpet, and have made all ready; but no one goes to the battle; for my wrath is on all its multitude.” Ezekiel 7 opens with these words: “Moreover Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,” The line to keep is Ezekiel 7:2: ““You, son of man, thus says the Lord Yahweh to the land of Israel, ‘An end! The end has come on the four corners of the land.” Carry the word “thus” from that verse into the rest of the day.

The line worth learning out loud is Ezekiel 7:2: ““You, son of man, thus says the Lord Yahweh to the land of Israel, ‘An end! The end has come on the four corners of the land.” If the rest of the chapter feels crowded, hold that one sentence until the room is quiet.

What happens first in Ezekiel 7? Then try this: Read ““You, son of man, thus says the Lord Yahweh to the land of Israel, ‘An end! The end has come on the four…” once more. What does it show you about God? You do not have to finish every verse. You can close the book after the memory verse and still have read the Bible together.

Walk the room as if you are moving through Ezekiel 7. Every time you freeze, a child says one word from Ezekiel 7:2. The last child says the whole verse.

Craft

On a US Letter sheet, draw one picture from Ezekiel 7 and write Ezekiel 7:2 under it. Send it home as tonight’s reminder, not as a decoration contest.
