Five-minute object lesson
Prop: a cup of water
Hold a cup of water. Read Jeremiah 15 in about four minutes, stopping at Jeremiah 15:16: “Your words were found, and I ate them. Your words were to me a joy and the rejoicing of my heart, for I am called by your name, Yahweh, God of Armies.” Ask, “What does this prop have to do with Jeremiah 15?” Let two children answer, then say the memory verse together.
Story script
Jeremiah 15 is a real chapter from the Old Testament. It starts, “Then Yahweh said to me, “Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind would not be toward this people. Cast them out of my sight, and let them go out!” That is not a motto invented for a poster. It is the first sentence a family hears when this page is opened at night.
Keep going a little further. The chapter also says, “Yahweh said, “Most certainly I will strengthen you for good. Most certainly I will cause the enemy to make supplication to you in the time of evil and in the time of affliction.” Jeremiah 15 opens with these words: “Then Yahweh said to me, “Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind would not be toward this people. Cast them out of my sight,…” The line to keep is Jeremiah 15:16: “Your words were found, and I ate them. Your words were to me a joy and the rejoicing of my heart, for I am called by your name, Yahweh, God of Armies.” Carry the word “words” from that verse into the rest of the day.
The line worth learning out loud is Jeremiah 15:16: “Your words were found, and I ate them. Your words were to me a joy and the rejoicing of my heart, for I am called by your name, Yahweh, God of Armies.” If the rest of the chapter feels crowded, hold that one sentence until the room is quiet.
What happens first in Jeremiah 15? Then try this: Read “Your words were found, and I ate them. Your words were to me a joy and the rejoicing of my heart, for I am…” once more. What does it show you about God? You do not have to finish every verse. You can close the book after the memory verse and still have read the Bible together.
Group game
Walk the room as if you are moving through Jeremiah 15. Every time you freeze, a child says one word from Jeremiah 15:16. The last child says the whole verse.
Craft
On a US Letter sheet, draw one picture from Jeremiah 15 and write Jeremiah 15:16 under it. Send it home as tonight’s reminder, not as a decoration contest.
