Five-minute object lesson
Prop: a paper map or a globe
Hold up a paper map or a globe. In about five minutes, tell the class this: The risen Jesus sends his friends to make disciples and promises to be with them always. Show the prop and ask, “What does this have to do with Go and Tell?” Let two children answer. Then read Matthew 28:20 together: “teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.” Close by asking one child to say the lesson back in their own words, using the prop.
Story script
The eleven disciples went to the mountain in Galilee where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped, and some still doubted. Jesus did not wait for perfect confidence. He came near and spoke.
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” The good news was never meant to stay on one hillside.
Then he gave the promise that holds the whole job together: “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Go, and I am with you. Teach, and I am with you. The end of the age is not a lonely finish line.
This is the last story in a year of stories, and it sends you back to the beginning with company. You can tell someone a Bible story you love. You can love a neighbor. You can pray. You will not outgrow the promise. Jesus is with you always.
Group game
Jesus points to the map. Children walk to four corners of the room, Jerusalem to the ends of the earth, and say, I am with you always.
Craft
Draw a path, two friends, and a big promise banner: I am with you always.
