Five-minute object lesson

Prop: a smooth stone

Hold a smooth stone. Read Job 32 in about four minutes, stopping at Job 32:3: “Also his wrath was kindled against his three friends, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.” Ask, “What does this prop have to do with Job 32?” Let two children answer, then say the memory verse together.

Story script

Job 32 is a real chapter from the Old Testament. It starts, “So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.” That is not a motto invented for a poster. It is the first sentence a family hears when this page is opened at night.

Keep going a little further. The chapter also says, “Yes, I gave you my full attention, but there was no one who convinced Job, or who answered his words, among you.” Job 32 opens with these words: “So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.” The line to keep is Job 32:3: “Also his wrath was kindled against his three friends, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.” Carry the word “wrath” from that verse into the rest of the day.

The line worth learning out loud is Job 32:3: “Also his wrath was kindled against his three friends, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.” If the rest of the chapter feels crowded, hold that one sentence until the room is quiet.

What happens first in Job 32? Then try this: Read “Also his wrath was kindled against his three friends, because they had found no answer, and yet had…” once more. What does it show you about God? You do not have to finish every verse. You can close the book after the memory verse and still have read the Bible together.

Group game

Walk the room as if you are moving through Job 32. Every time you freeze, a child says one word from Job 32:3. The last child says the whole verse.

Craft

On a US Letter sheet, draw one picture from Job 32 and write Job 32:3 under it. Send it home as tonight’s reminder, not as a decoration contest.
