Five-minute object lesson
Prop: a seed
Hold a seed. Read Leviticus 26 in about four minutes, stopping at Leviticus 26:6: ““‘I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and no one will make you afraid. I will remove evil animals out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.” Ask, “What does this prop have to do with Leviticus 26?” Let two children answer, then say the memory verse together.
Story script
Leviticus 26 is a real chapter from the Old Testament. It starts, ““‘You shall make for yourselves no idols, and you shall not raise up a carved image or a pillar, and you shall not place any figured stone in your land, to bow down to it; for I am Yahweh your God.” That is not a motto invented for a poster. It is the first sentence a family hears when this page is opened at night.
Keep going a little further. The chapter also says, “then I will also walk contrary to you; and I will strike you, even I, seven times for your sins.” Leviticus 26 opens with these words: ““‘You shall make for yourselves no idols, and you shall not raise up a carved image or a pillar, and you shall not place any figured stone…” The line to keep is Leviticus 26:6: ““‘I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and no one will make you afraid. I will remove evil animals out of the land, neither shall the sword…” Carry the word “give” from that verse into the rest of the day.
The line worth learning out loud is Leviticus 26:6: ““‘I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and no one will make you afraid. I will remove evil animals out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.” If the rest of the chapter feels crowded, hold that one sentence until the room is quiet.
What happens first in Leviticus 26? Then try this: Read ““‘I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and no one will make you afraid. I will remove evil…” once more. What does it show you about God? You do not have to finish every verse. You can close the book after the memory verse and still have read the Bible together.
Group game
Walk the room as if you are moving through Leviticus 26. Every time you freeze, a child says one word from Leviticus 26:6. The last child says the whole verse.
Craft
On a US Letter sheet, draw one picture from Leviticus 26 and write Leviticus 26:6 under it. Send it home as tonight’s reminder, not as a decoration contest.
