Five-minute object lesson
Prop: a folded cloth
Hold a folded cloth. Read Leviticus 25 in about four minutes, stopping at Leviticus 25:17: “You shall not wrong one another; but you shall fear your God: for I am Yahweh your God.” Ask, “What does this prop have to do with Leviticus 25?” Let two children answer, then say the memory verse together.
Story script
Leviticus 25 is a real chapter from the Old Testament. It starts, “Yahweh said to Moses in Mount Sinai,” That is not a motto invented for a poster. It is the first sentence a family hears when this page is opened at night.
Keep going a little further. The chapter also says, “But if he isn’t able to get it back for himself, then what he has sold shall remain in the hand of him who has bought it until the Year of Jubilee: and in the Jubilee it shall be released, and he shall return to his property.” Leviticus 25 opens with these words: “Yahweh said to Moses in Mount Sinai,” The line to keep is Leviticus 25:17: “You shall not wrong one another; but you shall fear your God: for I am Yahweh your God.” Carry the word “wrong” from that verse into the rest of the day.
The line worth learning out loud is Leviticus 25:17: “You shall not wrong one another; but you shall fear your God: for I am Yahweh your God.” If the rest of the chapter feels crowded, hold that one sentence until the room is quiet.
What happens first in Leviticus 25? Then try this: Read “You shall not wrong one another; but you shall fear your God: for I am Yahweh your God.” once more. What does it show you about God? You do not have to finish every verse. You can close the book after the memory verse and still have read the Bible together.
Group game
Walk the room as if you are moving through Leviticus 25. Every time you freeze, a child says one word from Leviticus 25:17. The last child says the whole verse.
Craft
On a US Letter sheet, draw one picture from Leviticus 25 and write Leviticus 25:17 under it. Send it home as tonight’s reminder, not as a decoration contest.
