Prop: a cup of water

Hold a cup of water. Read Leviticus 14 in about four minutes, stopping at Leviticus 14:2: ““This shall be the law of the leper in the day of his cleansing. He shall be brought to the priest,” Ask, “What does this prop have to do with Leviticus 14?” Let two children answer, then say the memory verse together.

Story script

Leviticus 14 is a real chapter from the Old Testament. It starts, “Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,” That is not a motto invented for a poster. It is the first sentence a family hears when this page is opened at night.

Keep going a little further. The chapter also says, “The rest of the oil that is in the priest’s hand he shall put on the head of him who is to be cleansed, to make atonement for him before Yahweh.” Leviticus 14 opens with these words: “Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,” The line to keep is Leviticus 14:2: ““This shall be the law of the leper in the day of his cleansing. He shall be brought to the priest,” Carry the word “leper” from that verse into the rest of the day.

The line worth learning out loud is Leviticus 14:2: ““This shall be the law of the leper in the day of his cleansing. He shall be brought to the priest,” If the rest of the chapter feels crowded, hold that one sentence until the room is quiet.

What happens first in Leviticus 14? Then try this: Read ““This shall be the law of the leper in the day of his cleansing. He shall be brought to the priest,” once more. What does it show you about God? You do not have to finish every verse. You can close the book after the memory verse and still have read the Bible together.

Walk the room as if you are moving through Leviticus 14. Every time you freeze, a child says one word from Leviticus 14:2. The last child says the whole verse.

Craft

On a US Letter sheet, draw one picture from Leviticus 14 and write Leviticus 14:2 under it. Send it home as tonight’s reminder, not as a decoration contest.
