Five-minute object lesson
Prop: a flashlight
Hold up a flashlight. In about five minutes, tell the class this: God speaks light, oceans, animals, and people into a world he calls very good, then rests. Show the prop and ask, “What does this have to do with The Week God Made the World?” Let two children answer. Then read Genesis 1:31 together: “God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. There was evening and there was morning, a sixth day.” Close by asking one child to say the lesson back in their own words, using the prop.
Story script
Before there was a sunrise or a puddle or a single songbird, God was already there. The world was empty and dark, like a room before anyone turns on a lamp. Then God spoke, and light spilled out. He looked at the light and called it good.
On the days that followed, God gathered the oceans so they would stay in their beds, and he pressed dry land into hills and gardens. He told the ground to grow grass and fruit trees. He hung the sun for daytime and the moon for bedtime, and he scattered stars like seeds across the sky. Fish flashed in the water. Birds practiced their first songs. Animals walked, hopped, and curled up in the shade.
Last of all, God made people. He made them to walk with him, to name the creatures, and to take care of the world like trusted helpers. They were not an accident and not a copy of anyone else. When the work was finished, God rested. He was not worn out. The world was complete, and it was worth enjoying.
Tonight, when you look at your own hands, remember they were thought of by the same God who invented stars. You belong in a world he called very good. You can thank him for one thing you saw today — a cloud, a pet, a smile, or the moon outside your window — and then let your body rest the way God rested.
Group game
Turn the flashlight off and on. When the light is on, each child names one thing God made. When it is off, everyone freezes. Play seven rounds, one for each day in the story.
Craft
Fold paper into seven boxes. Draw light, sky, plants, sun and moon, fish and birds, animals and people, and a resting day.

Take-home prayer
Creator God, thank you for light, for animals, and for making me on purpose. Help me rest tonight in a world you called very good. Amen.
