Nehemiah

Written by Nehemiah, writing his own memoir. Written for The people rebuilding Jerusalem's walls.

Big picture in three sentences

Nehemiah is a cupbearer who weeps when he hears that Jerusalem's walls are broken.

He prays, asks the king for help, and leads families to build with a tool in one hand.

When the wall is finished they read Scripture together and promise to walk with God.

The joy of the Lord is your strength comes from the day they understood the reading.

Key verse · Nehemiah 8:10

“Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared, for today is holy to our Lord. Don’t be grieved, for the joy of Yahweh is your strength.””
