New Testament · General Letters

1 John

Written by John. Written for Churches that needed to be sure of God's love.

Big picture in three sentences

First John talks like a grandfather who has seen Jesus with his own eyes.

He says God is light and God is love.

We love because he loved us first, and we can know that we belong to him.

John uses the word love more here than almost anywhere.

Key verse · 1 John 4:19

“We love him, because he first loved us.”
